Nötverket is a network that brings together growers, schools, plant nurseries, advisors, researchers, entrepreneurs, food creators and nut enthusiasts in a knowledge hub – a platform with a mission to make nuts a natural part of the Swedish food landscape. The goal is to establish on farm test beds, both for nut cultivation on different scales and for the process from field to fork, as well as to contribute to new collaboration models and knowledge dissemination. The initiators of Nötverket are MiljöMatematik and Framtidskultur, whose mission is to transform the food system.

BACKGROUND
We currently import nuts worth millions of SEK every year, despite the fact that we have both the conditions and the will to develop solutions for the Nordic context. In recent years, interest in nut cultivation has exploded. Nuts have been identified by both the EAT-Lancet Commission and the WHO as key to a healthy diet within the planet’s limits. We have had a strong tradition of nut cultivation in Sweden, and our climate provides the conditions for designing multifunctional cultivation systems with high biodiversity and potential for both carbon storage and high-quality nuts. There is an existing market for imported nuts that can be quickly captured.
